Frequently Asked Questions
How old does my dog need to be?
Puppies as young as 12 weeks (full puppy vaccinations required prior to enrollment) can attend this class. There is officially no maximum age for a dog to start taking classes, but we recommend consulting with your veterinarian to determine if your dog is physically fit enough to start classes involving body awareness movements no matter what age.
do we have to compete?
Definitely not. Classes are geared towards achieving goals and for most people that means going to shows and obtaining titles but this is not a requirement for any DogJoy student. Trick Dog titles however are earned through classes, so it's an easy way to earn titles here in class!
is this a kid friendly class?
Definitely yes. We recommend children be at least 8 years old for Trick Dog training or approval of the trainer. Children need to be accompanied by an adult caregiver over the age of 18 years.
what if my dog has a physical impairment?
Please consult your veterinarian to determine if this is an appropriate activity for your dog first. Written notice from your veterinarian for any exclusions/inclusions needs to be provided before beginning classes.
What equipment is needed?
You will need:
A well fitting collar such as a martingale style
Plenty of soft yummy treats
Favorite Kyra Sundance book
Toys and other motivators if applicable
Specific props if your trick is created by you
