If you want to pay in cash, please message Beth on Facebook at the DogJoy Training page to set up a meeting time during a weekly class meet or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. The remainder of your balance is due by the first class day. If you have not paid, you will not be able to participate in the activity that session.
Veterinary Records/Flea and Tick Preventative
We need a copy of your recent vaccination records from your vet if you didn't attach it on the form. If you do your own vaccinations then please provide the dates and manufacturer/lot number of the vaccines as well as a copy of your rabies vaccination from a practicing veterinarian. Your pet also needs to be on flea/tick preventative as this is a farm environment and we want to avoid bringing in any bugs as well to the property. The property is treated seasonally against ants, fleas, and ticks but they limit the treatments to avoid overdoing the chemicals due to the animals.
About Cirrus Sky Farms
This is a privately owned farm area that has horses, barn cats, and other dogs on it. We ask that you refrain from visiting any of the other areas or animals (especially the horses) and only stay in the parking/Barn Hunt building areas. When you drive into the driveway there is the house directly in front, take the gate to the left and park in the grass area in front of the building.
All dogs must be on leash at all times unless directed by a DogJoy trainer to do otherwise. There will be a marked off potty area for the dogs but at this time there will not be a restroom available for humans. Water will be provided, but it is recommended you bring your own water whenever possible. The parking is right at the building so you will be able to crate your dog from your vehicle if needed. It is easy to walk around and reasonably accessible if you need accommodations but please be mindful of the terrain to avoid injury. Please arrive about 10 minutes before your start time so you can get oriented, potty your dog, and get a quick briefing.
Specific Barn Hunt Information
For gear, our team prefers a martingale collar and a thick leash approximately 6 feet in length made of leather, nylon, or rope (no chains) during class. This is to permit the maximum amount of control and safety for the dog without restricting movement or accidentally correcting them. If you have to have a harness due to personal preference, please use one that doesn't unnecessarily restrict the dog's movement. No Haltis/head collars for this activity. You may use them before or after class however. See below for examples. For treats/toys/etc you can bring your dog's favorites. DogJoy people have the most success with Zukes Mini Naturals, Lean Pupperoni, chicken, steak, string cheese, and hot dogs. The neat thing about Barn Hunt is that we will be building up your dog's prey drive so treats aren't needed as often or in the same way you would use them for training a dog to sit. We do recommend having these things on hand just in case your pup needs some help connecting the dots. Most dogs get the game quickly and then your reward is more for them actually coming back to you instead of trying to keep the game going! There will be some collars and treats available for purchase if needed as well.
No Slip Leads/Chokes made of any material including rope, chain, leather with or without prongs
No Easy Walk style harnesses (the leash attaches to the front) or Halti Head collars. These impede the dog's ability to pull properly during Barn Hunt classes
Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you in class!
