AKC STAR Puppy Class
Skills Needed: Dog cannot be aggressive towards people or dogs. Description: This is DogJoy's version of "basic" training tailored for puppies under the age of one year. In our version of this "traditional" class, you will learn how to head towards making your commands stick in your dog's mind. We discuss focus, teamwork, and how to shift some of the training responsibility onto your dog to create a much more harmonious relationship with your pup. At the end of the 6 week session, you may be eligible to be an AKC STAR Puppy! For more information, CLICK HERE Foundations Skills Needed: Dog cannot be aggressive towards people or dogs. Description: This is DogJoy's version of "basic" training. In our version of this "traditional" class, you will learn how to head towards making your commands stick in your dog's mind. We discuss focus, teamwork, and how to shift some of the training responsibility onto your dog to create a much more harmonious relationship with your pup. This class is for dogs that are over the age of one year. NOTE: Only one or two dogs are allowed at most in this to allow for maximum one on one attention. AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Skills Needed: Dog cannot be aggressive towards people or dogs. Must have completed either the AKC STAR Puppy class, Smart Dog Class, or demonstrate ability to perform skills learned in those basic classes. Description: This class will prep you and your dog to tackle the fun and important skills that the AKC Canine Good Citizen exam tests. You will learn how to improve your dog's ability to perform with real world distractions and demonstrate basic skills while interacting with strangers. At the end of the 6 week class, eligible participants can take the exam and upon passing, earn their first AKC title, the CGC! See HERE for more information on the CGC. Novice Obedience Skills Needed: Must demonstrate an ability to keep control of their dog with mild-moderate distractions. Dog needs to know how to sit, stay/wait, down, and come on leash. Description: This class is about furthering you and your dog's abilities beyond the basic sit, stay, come basics. You will learn new games that encourage your dog to be responsive to your spoken and unspoken commands and head towards better teamwork whether you are out shopping, working around the house, or trying for that title! DogJoy Instructor's Choice Skills Needed: Dog cannot be aggressive towards people or dogs. Description: Instructor's Choice is a revolving class offered in either one time seminar style classes or an ongoing class designed to introduce participants to various activities with their dogs they might not otherwise know about. We cover topics such as tracking, nosework, agility foundations, FitPaws, trick training, clicker training, and more! Rally Run Throughs Skills Needed: Dog must walk on a loose leash (for Novice level), sit, down, stay/wait, and come on leash. For advanced level courses, a demonstration of off leash heeling will be required OR you can opt to perform the courses on leash. Description: Rally Obedience is a fun version of traditional obedience that uses signs to instruct you and your dog through a fun course. There can be between 15 and 25 signs with jumps, cones, and other obstacles to over come. Our Run Throughs are set up and participants are welcome to just come and run. Instruction is NOT available during these times; however, the course for that day will used during the Advanced Class is you would like to drop in and get help there. |
